Jan originally trained as a Legal Executive, then later became Company Secretary and Accountant in the printing company which she and her husband Alan owned in Northamptonshire. After selling and retiring from that business they took up 'serious' cruising and sailed around Britain in 1996, then around the world from 1998-2000, and she continues to enjoy slightly more local cruising whenever possible. Jan became Honorary Treasurer of BYC in April 2007.
