Text Box: This is the first issue of what we hope will be an informative and interesting club newsletter. I am Alan Haynes, your editor for this first issue, and let me first explain that although originally from the printing industry, I am no expert in modern desktop publishing, so please accept my apologies for any quirkiness in the design or layout; hopefully I will eventually get to grips with the delights of Microsoft Publisher.
The main aim of the newsletter is to provide you, the members, with much more information about your club than many of you currently receive:
News of what is happening at BYC, including the organisation and fabric of the club, it’s members and officials, and future developments.
Promote forthcoming social and sailing events
Provide an informal platform for members to report on their exploits both on and off the water
Introduce officers and committee members to the membership
Provide information about BYC to potential and new members
We would like to publish about four times a year, but this will depend on the progress of the first few issues and how well it is received by the members. The content needs to come from many sources — members, officers, committees, visitors, advertisers, employees; indeed anyone who has an active interest in what goes on at BYC. Let us try to make it attractive and newsworthy so that people want to read it and react to it’s content.
Circulation will be by post and soon via email link to the club website where you will also find the newsletter. To save printing and postage costs we would like as many members as possible to receive it electronically. We will be actively seeking sponsors and/or advertisers to help offset some of the production and distribution costs, so please let me know if you or your company can help—see page 2 for contact details.
