New Season,  New Faces, New Challenges

The freezing cold easterly winds of the last few weeks make it hard to believe that spring is in the air and a new sailing season is upon us (harder still for those of us who have just returned from 6 weeks working in the Caribbean!) In a couple of weeks the yachts will be back on the water for both racing and cruising - good luck and fair winds to everyone, especially those tempted to join in the new ‘Corinthian’ fleet - see page 3.

The new season also brings new faces, with a number of personnel changes expected among flag officers and committee members at the AGM. We should never forget that our club is run largely by unpaid volunteers. All of them, and particularly those new to the task, deserve our wholehearted support and encouragement.

Demolition of the central car park can hardly be described as the green shoots of recovery in Brixham, but the more optimistic amongst us hope and feel that the town’s regeneration is finally under way. Surely all those involved must now maintain the momentum to make it all happen, including the harbour developments and Northern Arm breakwater. BYC is right at the heart of the harbourside development and already a number of club officers and members are playing an active role in protecting and promoting the interests of the club - see page 2.

Our next issue will be published in late summer by which time many will have interesting tales of exploits both on and off the water. Heroic or humourous, please let us know if you have any stories suitable for publication in the next issue….we need contributions from club members.                                ALAN HAYNES,  EDITOR

Annual General Meeting

This issue of Mainsheet comes to you with the formal notices for this year’s AGM which is to be held at the club on

Friday 8th April at 1930

Whilst the express aim of the AGM is to conduct the formal business including the presentation of reports, accounts and election of officers, it is also an opportunity for you the members to hear about the progress of your club and to make your views known. It also usually turns out to be quite a lively  social evening so please make every effort to attend!

Regard of Brixham, featured on page 4 of this issue. We would like to feature a member’s yacht in each issue, so if you have a good (digital) photo and some information about yours, please send it to the editor, details on page 2.
