MIRACLE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP  at  BYC

Brixham Yacht Club will be hosting the Miracle  National Championship from 31st July to 5th August. Such events are beneficial to the club in two ways - they bring a lot of extra business and they raise the profile of BYC, potentially attracting new members.

We are expecting a lot of dinghies for the event and we will  require voluntary help for the week. We need people  to help with a variety of jobs, from teenage children to help the beachmaster to people to help with the safety boats.

We are also looking for people to help on the committee boat, and with the barbeque on Wednesday 3 August. Please contact Matt Dodd if you are able to help in any way

CAN’T RACE / WON’T RACE?

If you have a sailing boat of any description and if the word “racing” fills you with the same dread as another dirty word - “spinnaker”, then the newly formed Corinthian Fleet could be for you.

Primarily designed for those who would like to enjoy mildly competitive sailing any Thursday evening during the season but without the need to get a formal handicap rating, anyone is welcome to join in. We will allocate you a handicap that will be changed every so often depending on how well (or badly) you have performed.

Still worried? We will even coach you in the basic principles of racing if necessary and remember   everyone else in the Corinthian fleet will be in the same boat as yourself (no not literally) so give it a go. All you have to do is collect a registration form, available from behind the bar, and we will do the rest.

Text Box: Do you wear a Special Ensign?
The Secretary of State for Defence has the authority to grant to Clubs, Associations and Squadrons, throughout the United Kingdom, a ‘Warrant to Wear a Special Ensign.’ Such a Warrant was granted to The Brixham Yacht Club in 1985.
The Brixham Yacht Club’s Special Ensign comprises the Red Ensign defaced with an orange and crown. The Ensign may only be worn in conjunction with the Club Burgee. (A Burgee may however be worn without an ensign.)
A yacht may wear a Special Ensign provided that it is Registered under the appropriate Act as a Part I vessel or in the Small Ships Register. The yacht must measure not less than (a) 2 tons if registered by tonnage; or (b) 7 metres in length overall, if measured in length.
Members wishing to wear The Brixham Yacht Club’s Special Ensign may obtain a Permit, together with an Ensign and Burgee from the Honorary Secretary. It is a fine way of demonstrating pride in your club, and is often recognised by fellow yachtsmen.
