Help page for opening Synoptic Charts
The charts are downloaded from NOAA (America) and are .tiff (.tif) format.
They can be opened in any programme that supports these file types.
To view these files in "Windows" select 'My Computer'
From the menu select TOOLS then FOLDER OPTIONS : FILE TYPES
A window or file types will be displayed, scroll down and select .TIFF (Highlight the name)
Under the window click on the button CHANGE and select any of the programmes which are installed on your computer that are shown at the top of the list as recomended programmes. (In certain circumstances WINDOWS PICTURE & FAX VIEWER is shown but will not display the file types)
Highlight the name
(or any of the 'recommended programmes at the top of the list) Then click OK and CLOSE on the next window.
Repeat this for .TIF files
When the link is then selected from the web site it will open in WINDOWS PICTURE & FAX VIEWER
When the chart is displayed it will need to be "Turned" sideways to view in landscape mode, it can be printed from this program.
OR alternatively a free "tiff viewer can be downloaded and 'added' to internet Explorer to automatically open the files. One such programme is http://www.alternatiff.com (follow on screen instuctions to install)
