Yacht Race Thursday Series 1 Race 3
Under clear blue skies, Thursday evening yacht racing was finally able to get under way last week with 12 boats setting out for what would be the first event using split fleets and the return of IRC rated boats.
However, weather conditions were deceptive, and the keen Easterly breeze had whipped up the bay somewhat, with some sizeable waves to contend with.
Race Officer Terry Phillips chose to send both fleets over the same Short-Course 7 route, essentially a Windward/Leeward encompassing the home marks plus Foxtrot, Alpha, Echo and Zulu. Class 1 and IRC completed two laps with Class 2 just the first lap.
There were plenty of close battles on the water, with "Glance" and "Oxygen" just a few seconds apart at the front of the Class 1 fleet at the finish, despite "Oxygen" arriving late for the start. After application of the handicaps "Glance" emerged a clear winner in both the Class 1 and IRC fleets.
Just four boats competed in Class 2, with "Sighiri" taking the honours of the three finishers, with "A Piano" unfortunately having being judged to have been OCS at the start.

Sunday Yacht Race Series 1 Race 4
April 2021 has proven to be unkind to attempts to get the sail racing season under way, generally having been plagued by light winds. Recently, a persistently strong and chilly Easterly has emerged, and that breeze had succeeded in whipping up a significant chop in the bay.
No Club racing next Sunday - Weymouth Rally taking place.
Dinghy Cool Series Race 5
Dinghy sailors were greeted by bright blue skies again and relatively calm conditions for the latest Cool Series race. With a clear compound and the return of the changing rooms, things were starting to feel a little more normal at last.
