As a youngster Ron spent his early years messing about in boats around Brixham harbour, learnt sailing and motor boating at school in Brixham, even spent some time skippering his very own school small trawler. In those days navigation and seamanship were part of the school curriculum

If he is not working in his own furniture business, he will be on the water in some form, or doing his Job with Torbay lifeboat as a DLA, Deputy Launching authority as part of a team of 6 responsible for sanctioning the launching or our lifeboats.

Ron's other passion is cooking. Hence his main role in BYC heading up the bar and catering team.

    Fred Farmer

Fred's been an active member of the Yacht Club since arriving in Brixham some 32 years ago when he worked for Barclays Bank. During the 30 years he worked for Barclays he'd built up quite an amount of financial experience and knowledge which he is now able to contribute to the running of our Club. He 'escaped' Barclays some 17 years ago and became a professional yacht and motor boat skipper as well as an RYA instructor. As an enthusiastic sailor he's managed to sail around the British Isles a number of times and has also managed a few journeys further afield down to Portugal and across the Mediterranean. More locally he is a regular competitor in our club racing using his boat Spirited Away with our Commodore Terry as crew. He was appointed as a Director of the Club at the last full AGM and is happy to carry on as a Director for the next year overseeing our enthusiastic water activities teams.
