Monday Dinghy Racing The author was very much looking forward to reporting on what an enjoyable evening afloat felt like, chasing a variety of dinghies in the pursuit fleet, after weeks where racing wasn't possible due to lack of the essential ingredient - wind. Frustratingly, however, there are once again no results to talk about as the weather gods delivered rather too much wind on this occasion. Hopes that

Racing Many of the skippers who ventured out at around 17:30 Thursday evening for the Yacht Racing were anticipating somewhat of a "drift" around a short course based on a forecast of winds of 5 to 6 knots at best. What transpired couldn't have been more different, with a good Westerly breeze filling-in to reward the 12 boats who gathered at the start. Race Officer Peter Lytton chose clockwise Short Course 23

However, weather conditions were deceptive, and the keen Easterly breeze had whipped up the bay somewhat, with some sizeable waves to contend with. Race Officer Terry Phillips chose

Another Dinghy False Start The start of the official dinghy racing was postponed for another week due to the delayed crane in of yachts from the crowded compound. Despite the cold Monday evening, however, 9 boats ventured out for a final practice session, including two from Paignton Sailing Club. The wind was very light, shifting from North to South East, and it completely died by the end of the third lap. The Paignton

    "Freedom Race"

With the Step 1 relaxation of the coronavirus restrictions allowing organised outdoor sporting activity to resume the "Freedom Race" was enthusiastically attended by 6 yachts braving the anticipated cold conditions in an attempt to conclude the curtailed winter racing series. Unfortunately, the largely-expected very light winds caused a delayed platform start whilst hoping that the breeze might fill-in which, as it turned out, allowed the sailors to enjoy a surprisingly warm Sunday morning under a

    Dinghies Re-start

Conditions were very good for the first of the dinghy refresher sessions, with a decent breeze and cloudless skies, though in the shade it was a tad on the chilly side! With the help of a swathe of willing volunteers to rig the boats and launch the safety RIBs, sailors young and old, new and experienced, took to the water enthusiastically. With the compound still hosting the yachts before crane-in, space was at
