Ladies Sailing Day - Sunday May 22nd 2022
Published 18:00 on 8 Mar 2022
Finally, after having postponed twice in 2021 because of covid lockdown, then being postponed a further time this year because Sacha had covid, "Ladies Sailing Day" finally launched on Sunday 22nd May. The day couldn't have been better, with 6 onboard, endless sunshine, calm seas and a lovely gentle breeze of 7 to 12 mph.
Stocked up with essential supplies like Gin & Tonic, homemade sausage rolls, (made by Sarah or was it Mary?) and homemade coffee & walnut/Lemon drizzle cakes (made by Diane and Penny), the ladies cast off at midday, heading out on "AQ" towards Teignmouth (looking for seams of gold on the inside of the Ore Stone), with a gentle reach and lovely calm 3 - 4 knot lollop; finally tacking for the return leg a couple of miles off Spratt Sand a couple of hours or so later.
On the way back the 11 knot breeze made for a lovely 6.5 kts beat back around the outside of the Ore Stone (looking for more gold), following the coast past Torquay before heading up into wind (or South) to Brixham, and mooring up in time for Dinner.
If anybody is interested in coming out next time, please contact Sacha by email: vice-commodore@brixhamyachtclub.com to add your name to the list.
