  • Race Officer Training

BYC has recently set up a Race Officer "Academy", suitable for members who either would like to help run racing from the shore, or from afloat. It would be particularly useful if dinghy sailors could be able to help at the Point on Thursdays and for Yacht sailors to be able to run dinghy racing on Mondays. If you have sailing experience but have not raced, you are also welcome. The Monday practical sessions

IMPORTANT - Re-Opening of Club on the 22nd July

Dear Members, As you will all be aware, we have been obliged to close the bar and restaurant, due to staff being obliged to self isolate, and will be closed on Monday 19 th , which was ironically once known as "Freedom Day". It has been great to see lots of on-the-water activity, with racing and training, and would have been even better with a bit of wind. We are re-opening on Thursday

    Inaugural SUP & Kayak Evening

Wednesday 23rd June marked the first BYC-organised gathering of 'paddlers' ready to take part in a 'paddle in company' from the slipway. Two dozen bodies went afloat in a mix of Stand-up Paddle Boards and single/double kayaks and headed over to Fishcombe Cove on a very pleasant evening with only a hint of fresher breeze to make the paddle back to the Club more of a challenge. The kayaks ventured on to Elberry Cove

    New Opening Hours

From 1st June the Club will be operating extended opening hours for the Summer months. The times can be found here in the "Ashore" section. Also, the very old wooden steps from the Quarterdeck to the Holman room are being replaced sometime next week. It should only take a couple of days but unfortunately we will have to close the quarterdeck during the day while they are working and welding

Monday Dinghy Racing The author was very much looking forward to reporting on what an enjoyable evening afloat felt like, chasing a variety of dinghies in the pursuit fleet, after weeks where racing wasn't possible due to lack of the essential ingredient - wind. Frustratingly, however, there are once again no results to talk about as the weather gods delivered rather too much wind on this occasion. Hopes that

Racing Many of the skippers who ventured out at around 17:30 Thursday evening for the Yacht Racing were anticipating somewhat of a "drift" around a short course based on a forecast of winds of 5 to 6 knots at best. What transpired couldn't have been more different, with a good Westerly breeze filling-in to reward the 12 boats who gathered at the start. Race Officer Peter Lytton chose clockwise Short Course 23

Yacht Race Thursday Series 1 Race 3 Under clear blue skies, Thursday evening yacht racing was finally able to get under way last week with 12 boats setting out for what would be the first event using split fleets and the return of IRC rated boats. However, weather conditions were deceptive, and the keen Easterly breeze had whipped up the bay somewhat, with some sizeable waves to contend with. Race Officer Terry Phillips chose

Strictly no more than 3 people at any one time and you must wipe down any touch points immediately after use (spray and wipes will be available). If you can still arrive already changed that would still be appreciated to avoid congestion before sailing but everyone can get changed and warm ready for the post-sail grub and drinks in "The
