Crew

If you are not a yacht owner you can still take part in Yacht Racing as a crew member. There are always spaces on the competing yachts and skippers will welcome you with open arms and will 'show you the ropes' if you don't have prior experience. On Thursdays you can gather at the landing steps around 17:30 and speak to one of the Shuttle crew who can radio the fleet to find out where there is space.

Volunteers

We are always on the look out for volunteers if you are interested in helping out, have a look at the descriptions below and see if there is anything you would like to help us with, and get in touch

Race Officers and Race Management Team

We need race officers to run races on Thursday evenings and occasionally at weekends, and for dinghy races and championships.
We can run Club Race Officer courses, but we have course cards and instructions for anyone interested.
We also need helpers at the point and for on committee boats, for raising flags, taking times and sail numbers, using the VHF radio, keeping time etc. We are happy to train people up, and show you the ropes!
For Thursday evenings, you will need to be available and able to get to our point hut for around 5:30pm.

Rib Drivers and Crews

To drive one of our ribs, we need you to have a Rib Level 2 qualification. We can provide training if you are interested.
It is not essential but we also like to have some rib crews and drivers who have Safety Boat course as well, and again, we can provide the training if needed (see our RYA training page).
If you would like to gain some experience, we also have rib experience days where you can go out on a rib with an experienced driver and get some time in a rib. You do not have to have experience or qualifications to be crew, we can train you up, either to be a safety boat (rescuing dinghy sailors when needed and assisting), mark layer (laying buoys and marks), or general rib crew for a championship or race.

Beach Crew

When we host dinghy championships, or run dinghy racing we sometimes require volunteers to help with trollies, launching and recovering dinghies and helping out with the tallies.
We can provide instruction, but this may be quite a physical job, and sometimes requires you to get your feet wet!

Race Office

We need volunteers to help run the office, help on site, process entries, update the website and log results. We can give you full training on how to do this it's mainly paperwork, computer and admin and it is not necessary to have sailing/racing experience
